Logo Design Tutorial: Stone Gecko

In this tutorial I hope to illustrate some of the process of logo design usingAdobe Illustrator. However, I must stress, this is not so much a tutorial on the use of Adobe Illustrator as it is a way to show you one method of the "process" of refining an image to a corporate identity (logo) or stylized vector illustration.The basic process here could be applied to any vector drawing application.

It should be noted that the example provided here was done mostly for this tutorial and I have bypassed a few of the earlier stages of logo design and concepting such as thumbnail sketching, etc.

Vector Tutorial - Obama logo

No matter what you think of his politics, U.S. presidential cantidate Barack Obama has a pretty incredible marketing and design machine behind him. One strong example of this is his “O” logo. Simple, attractive, symbolic, it’s undeniably an effective logo.

Another aspect of the Obama campaign that is attractive to a lot of American’s is the grass-roots, everybody can be involved attitude that they’ve been trying quite successfully to convey. In honor of that attitude, and just in time for the Democratic Convention, I thought I would show some really helpful Illustrator techniques by making the Obama logo. In this tutorial, we’ll be going over the Pathfinder, Envelope Warps, Opacity Masks, and Gradient Meshes. And we’ll use a drop shadow!

But you, as a designer-can you easily visualize a concept just by reading the design requirements of a Contest Holder? Maybe most of, will say "Yes, I can!". How about the beginners of other logo designer? The answer is No, some still search the world wide web for free vector or clipart which is highly prohibited on Logo designing. But some designer say it is greatly modified by his own. But what about the designer who made that clipart? For us, he should have some credits too.
